Once upon a time, there was a father who had two sons. He loved them both dearly, but he was concerned that they were not living up to their potential. He wanted them to be successful and to make something of themselves, so he decided to give them a task.
He called his sons together and said, “My sons, I want you to go out into the fields and work. I want you to work hard and make something of yourselves.”
The older son was eager to please his father and said, “Yes, father, I will go out and work in the fields.” But the younger son was not so eager. He said, “No, father, I will not go out and work in the fields.”
The father was disappointed in his younger son, but he still loved him and wanted him to do the right thing. So he said to his older son, “Go out and work in the fields, and I will reward you for your hard work.”
The older son went out and worked hard in the fields. He worked all day and into the night, and he was rewarded for his hard work. The father was pleased with his son and said, “Well done, my son. You have done a great job.”
The younger son, however, did not go out and work in the fields. He stayed at home and did nothing. He was lazy and did not want to work.
The father was disappointed in his younger son, but he still loved him and wanted him to do the right thing. So he said to his younger son, “Go out and work in the fields, and I will reward you for your hard work.”
The younger son was still not eager to please his father, but he eventually went out and worked in the fields. He worked all day and into the night, but he did not work as hard as his older brother.
When the father saw the work of his two sons, he was pleased with the older son and disappointed with the younger son. He said to his older son, “Well done, my son. You have done a great job.” But to his younger son, he said, “You have not done as well as your brother. You have not worked as hard as he did.”
The father wanted to teach his sons a lesson, so he said to them, “This is the parable of the two sons. The older son worked hard and was rewarded for his hard work. The younger son was lazy and did not work as hard, and he was not rewarded for his laziness.”
The moral of this story is that hard work pays off. If you work hard and do your best, you will be rewarded. But if you are lazy and do not work hard, you will not be rewarded. So always strive to do your best and work hard, and you will be rewarded for your efforts.
